The hardware itself is good for scanning. The German software called Silverfast 9 is terrible. Sure, it has the features I need (presented in a complicated way). However, the software nags at me to login and re-activate it in order to use the scanner software, which means I need to have internet access. Huh? And because I was hoping to use the scanner in remote rural areas, which will have moments of not having internet access, this is a bad piece of software.

I am looking into VueScan, which does have drivers for Plustek 8200i. It costs me more to do it this way, but doesn't constantly expect me to re-activate the software. The only problem is that the latest version quits unexpectedly after launch and running for 5 seconds. AI says it is a bug. The develop knows there is a bug and even asks users to reproduce it as it seems even he doesn't know what;'s happening. So it is a bit of a mess at the moment with such a new scanner.

My view is that if you do end up with this product ((probably after I sell it), use it for what you need, and sell it to someone else as soon as you can. If you definitely need a film scanner for the rest of your life, there are ones with better software and equally good if not better hardware scanners.

Much better scans than I was getting from the local lab, highly recommended for home use.
